Residential Photographer
Maggie Beck
Maggie Beck, or better known as Mags to her family and friends, is a rising junior at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where she studies studio art with a concentration in photography and a minor in journalism. She is originally from Kernersville, North Carolina, and has been drawn to photography from a very young age. Maggie believes that photography is a universal language that can be utilized to move people to care for the environment and as a way to bring people of all backgrounds together. Her dream is to become a National Geographic photographer, using her work to tell meaningful environmental and human-centered stories.

Maggie’s passion for photography has taken her beyond the classroom and even across the world. She studied abroad in Costa Rica, where she captured nature and the local indigenous tribe, the BriBri. Recently she traveled to Switzerland through a photography research-based grant, where she explored early landscape photography in the Alps and how it has changed through climate change. Whether she’s taking photos in a new country, warm or cold, or back at school, Maggie loves capturing meaningful moments. She has also been recognized for her commitment to her community as a Winston-Salem Humanitarian Award recipient.

When she’s not behind a camera, she is probably rewatching some of her favorite films (Mamma Mia, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games) or watching Survivor. She also loves developing her own film, making huge paper mache sea creatures, and playing lots of card games with her friends. Additionally, she strives to bring a positive energy whenever she goes and makes sure everyone feels seen and included, both in front of the camera and beyond.
