Laura Sheppard

Laura grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles, where she started surfing at age 8. She later moved to North Carolina to attend the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), earning a bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology. While at UNCW, she worked with Dr. Jake Warner, contributing to stem cell cancer research by 3D modeling sea urchin embryos.

Laura looks for adventure in everything, everywhere. She studied abroad in Stirling, Scotland, in 2021 and traveled to Belize to conduct coral reef research. After graduating, she worked as a Park Technician where her love for the woods took off. She got into mushroom foraging, snake tracking, and all things bushcraft.

Laura’s been teaching surfing since she was 16. She spent the summer of 2022 with WB Surf Camp as a day camp instructor and private coach, later joining their team in Costa Rica. She competed with her high school surf club at Huntington Beach but nothing compares to seeing groms light up when they catch their first wave.

When she’s not in the water, Laura’s likely hiking, camping, or getting a little lost somewhere on purpose. This is her second summer with WB, and she’s beyond stoked!
