Lindy Schoenborn: Surf Camp Photographer

What surfer doesn’t like a good surf photo? We all love to flip (or scroll) through the pages of our favorite surf magazine and look at the eye candy that is a good surf photo. Perfect waves, perfect lighting, not a drop of water out of place…surfers love surf photos. They especially like seeing surf photos of themselves. This is where Lindy Schoenborn comes into play…

WB Surf Camp is serious about our photos. We want all our campers and parents to have a keepsake of their time surfing with us. A moment frozen in time of the best wave they’ve ever caught. We hire talented photographers specifically to capture these moments.  Now that summer is winding down, we had a chance to sit down with our WB Day Camp photographer Lindy Scheonborn and take a look through her lens.

All About Lindy

Lindy

Where are you from, and where do you currently reside?  I’m from Charlotte,NC and currently live in Wilmington while I study photography & digital media at UNCW.

What is your emphasis in photography? I am currently exploring many different forms of the craft. From Portraits, to landscape, to street photography.  I’m hoping to find the one that really pushes me to explore deeper.

Equipment?  Favorite Camera? Currently shooting with a canon 6d with a 24-70mm f2.8 Love exploring my parent’s old 35mm film cameras.

What’s the toughest thing about your job? Keeping an eye on kids catching the waves and getting the right point of action and surveying the whole crowd of surfers to make sure you are getting everyone in a camp! And parents wanting to talk and getting in front of me with their phones.

surfboardsAnd, what’s the best thing about your job? Besides being on the beach every day, it’s seeing the stoke on the face of the kids when they catch a wave.

What would you say is the biggest lesson you’ve learned through photography? To really see life’s beauty and to keep these moments I’ve captured…

What’s the one piece of advice you’d give to someone who’s looking to get into surf photography? Get a long lens! Haha or underwater gear if you can. Don’t be afraid to get out there and take pics of people you don’t know.
