Surfing Lessons and Paddleboard Instruction at Wrightsville Beach

Come and see why Surfer Magazine rated Wrightsville Beach, NC as one of America’s top 10 surfing towns! Thanks to Interstate 40 and nearby Wilmington International Airport (ILM), this is the most accessible beach on the North Carolina coast and a perfect place to take Surfing Lessons or Stand Up Paddle Lessons.

Surrounded by water, you’ll be able to enjoy invigorating sunrises over the Atlantic and calming sunsets over the Intracoastal Waterway. There are five miles of white sandy beach and beautiful clear water that resembles the Caribbean. If you sit in your beach chair long enough there is a good chance you’ll be able to observe Atlantic bottlenose dolphins swimming and playing just a few yards past the stand up paddle boarders. Lifeguards are on stand and patrolling the beach from Memorial Day until Labor Day.

Wrightsville Beach is just minutes away from Wilmington, but don’t get them confused. They are completely separate towns, connected only by the green drawbridge that goes up on the hour (or whenever you’re running late!). Once on the island, you’ll experience its unique charm and you will feel like one of the locals in no time.

If lounging on the beach and reading the local paper, the Lumina News isn’t quite your speed, don’t worry because there is plenty to do here. Wrightsville Beach is one of the most active towns on the coast. Runners, joggers, walkers, and rollerbladers frequent “the loop,” a 2.45 paved running path that goes through the center of town and around the town’s park, police, and fire stations. Within the park there are basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts and multi-purpose fields. You’ll also pass by Johnnie Mercer’s Fishing Pier, a 945-foot long concrete pier, built to withstand hurricane winds of 200 miles per hour!

If you prefer to get your cardio by shopping, there are plenty of unique boutiques and surf shops. Afterward, be sure to enjoy some frozen custard or an iced latte from the local coffee shop. The dining options at Wrightsville Beach are plentiful. Don’t miss out on a Trolley Stop hot dog or Robert’s chicken salad sandwich for lunch. For dinner, there are numerous fine dining establishments complete with water views.

Wrightsville Beach is just one of the many pristine beaches of Southeastern North Carolina, which is ranked among the top 12 vacation spots in North America. The clear warm water averages in the low 80s throughout the summer months, making it an ideal location in which to learn the sport of surfing or stand-up paddle boarding through our world-renown Carolina Surf School!
