Surf Instructor Level 1 Certification
WB Surf Camp’s Instructor Development Program is a 5 level program that provides a structure for the certification of Surf Instructors through a process of education, experience, and evaluation. The goal of our program is to improve the quality, safety and consistency of surf instruction in our programs.
Surf Instructor Level 1 Prerequisite:
- Current American Red Cross CPR/First Aid Certification for the Professional Rescuer
- Pass WB Surf Camp Certification 1 course, which umbrellas our Ocean Safety Certification
- At least two years personal surfing experience
- 18 years of age or older
Our Level 1 course is a comprehensive 3 day course that teaches ocean safety, surf instruction methodologies, surf instructor safety, wave dynamics, and communication skills.
All level 1 instructors will demonstrate that their surfing ability is to a standard acceptable to WB Surf Camp. They will further demonstrate their competency to instruct beginner surfers (never surfed before), both through our “ Ground School” and in the water. They must also pass our written exam, open ocean swim test, and be comfortable in head-high surf conditions.
This training and certification is offered free of charge to all of our surf instructors.
