Instructor Highlight: Jeff Carver
Our Teen Overnight Unit Leader and Head Surf Instructor Jeff Carver is about as stoked on surfing as any one person can be. His love of the ocean spills over to anyone he meets and can be seen in his passion for teaching others how to surf. Jeff is a true waterman who isn’t happy unless his toes are in the sand and his head is in the water. We sat down with him recently to ask what makes him tick.
What drew you to a position at WB Surf Camp?
To be able to share my passion of the ocean with other people, especially kids. Seeing a grom catch their first wave is the best feeling in the world!
In what way has the ocean impacted your life?
THE OCEAN IS MY LIFE. Almost everything I do in this world revolves around the water and the waves. The ocean has shaped me into the person I am.
What is your favorite place you’ve traveled to?
It has to be a toss up between Ecuador and Costa Rica.
Who/what is your biggest inspiration?
Definitely my parents. They have always told me to chase my dreams and believe in myself.
What are some of your interests outside of surfing?
Saltwater fishing is my biggest passion outside of surfing. Being out on the boat is another type of escape for me. Tarheel athletics is my other big hobby…GO HEELS!
What is your favorite movie?
The Big Lebowski
What is your favorite music?
I love 311. The way they meld rock and ska together gave them a totally unique sound that changed the game.
What is your favorite food?
Sushi and spaghetti…it’s a tie.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Somewhere international. Probably in Central America.
In your eyes, the three things you value most are:
- The ocean
- Nature
- Respect
