Charlie Moore, Plastics in the Ocean , and the North Pacific Gyre
Last week we had the honor of hosting Captain Charles Moore of the Alagalita Marine Research Foundation at UNCW. His talk on the “Sea of Simmering Synthetic Soup” was both amazing and disturbing! His research is the first real data of its kind and it will blow you away, but not in a sailboat sort of way. Captain Moore has sailed from Hawaii to California several times discovering and researching this accumulation of garbage in our ocean…and its not just the Pacific either. Our very own Sargasso Sea, the nursery to all life, in the Atlantic Ocean is under threat as well. This is an amazing talk. Grab a bowl of popcorn and a drink and sit back…this is going to change the way you live!
