Teen Surfboard Building Camp
 How would you like to spend a week surfing the warm waters of Wrightsville, Topsail, and Carolina beaches while creating your own unique surfboard under the guidance of one of the East Coast’s top shapers? Does surfing mean more to you than just riding the waves under your feet? Spend time with fellow surfers whose passion for the sport inspires them to want to learn the art of surfboard building. While apprenticing a professional shaper, you will learn different aspects of this unique trade such as why surfboards are shaped differently and what effects shape has on performance.
This program is specifically geared towards absolute beginner to intermediate surfers ages 12 - 16 who want to broaden their horizons and gain a better knowledge of the physics of board design. You will leave this program, not only with your own custom surfboard, but also a newfound appreciation for the time and skill that goes into this art. The enrollment for this program is limited; we accept a maximum of only 10 participants. Campers will stay in air-conditioned suites at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and spend their days surfing and creating their masterpieces!
- Spend your first week learning how to surf or improving your existing skills.
- Spend your second week building your very own surfboard under the guidance of one of the East Coast’s top shapers.
- Learn the physics behind a shapers methodology and what effects it has on performance.
- Learn about different construction techniques and designs including shortboards, longboards, fun boards, and fishes.
- Design and take home your very own custom graphic surf board!
This two week adventure costs $3295 and includes the following: all lodging on UNCW's beautiful campus, meals, 24-hour adult supervision, surfboard building materials and instruction, shuttle to and from Wilmington's international airport (ILM), equipment (surfboard rental, rashguard usage), daily transportation, t-shirt, activity fees, certificate of achievement, and your graduating class photo. Check in is noon on the first day and check out is between 3:00 - 4:00pm on the last day ensuring maximum surf time. (Just 2 spots left)
